The Detroit Lions have a need in the back field or do they? I was thinking we might just be ok. Chris Houston is our one and only starter coming into this season. Aaron Berry is probably in line to get the other spot. He certainly has the tools to do it. I mean it is his to lose and correct me if I am wrong he already came out and said it. I personally think Aaron Berry could be the Lions knight in shining armor so to speak. He has the all the tools to be a starting corner in this league. He has been very good for the Lions and now is the time to take that next step.
I mean everyone including myself was saying the Lions need help in the backfield.
That is there number one need. Corner and safety they have to draft for these positions. Well they sign Jacob Lacey. Who is Jacob Lacey? Jacob Lacey signs here as a free agent. He played for the Colts for the past four years. He started 15 games last year for the Colts. So is Jacob Lacey? He is the replacement for Eric Wright.
I am telling you right now the loss of Eric Wright is going to be insignificant you will not even remember why we wanted him to stay here. I liked Eric Wright and he played very well for the Lions, but Lacey put up pretty comparable numbers to Wrights last year and the Lions don’t have to pay him five million dollars a year. Wright got paid by Tampa!
Then the here comes the draft. All Lions fans are thinking that they half to go CB. They have to draft a corner in the first two rounds. First round comes they choose OT. Second round comes they draft WR. Lions Nation complains like Matt Millen called in the pick. They finally address the defensive side of the ball in the last 5 rounds. 3 out of the 5 picks are corner backs. Now everyone is thinking ok we have six corners, but we do not have that second starter. Well I think we are missing the big picture here and I finally understood this after the CB from Buffalo was released. Drayton Florence who only missed one start in his three years with Buffalo would be a good a fit here in Detroit. I am one to tell you I was excited and told a few people that this might be the guy the Lions are looking for, but then I had a change of heart. I think they are set at CB. Like I said in the beginning of the post it’s all Aaron Berry. I think they are set. Our D-Line plays like we know they can play Houston, Berry, Lacey, and Bentley will look like pro bowlers.
Mayhew new exactly what he was doing this off season. He knew what he already had on this team. He saw Broyels on the board and had to take him and he knew that Bill Bentley would a guy who I saw on many mock drafts the Lions taking in the second round. Bentley also was ranked a top 5 corner out of all the rookies that were drafted. We were blinded by the second round pick. It clouded our minds. It brought back nightmares of the Millen era, but it is time for Lions nation to wake up and clear our heads it’s a new season and in Mayhew we trust. Believe me he did this right and now we just have to watch it play out.
