It’s time for the Denver Broncos to say goodbye to linebacker, DJ Williams. He’s been a solid, not great, player for the team over the past few seasons but his off the field issues are making it extremely difficult to justify keeping him around. The latest incident is inexcusable; Williams tweeted out plays from the Broncos playbook for everyone to see.
Mike Kils of the Denver Post reported that the Broncos are “ticked” at Williams, and who could blame them?
NFL teams will put up with a lot and the Broncos have with Williams, 2 DUI’s in a year and a half and a 6 game suspension to start the 2012 season. Those are bad and believe me when I tell you that John Elway was growing tired of Williams act, but the incident on Friday could be and should be the last straw. Williams let down the organization, his coaches, his teammates and the fans.
NFL teams win and lose together; they will forgive a lot of transgressions but don’t ever break the code. Williams broke the code on Friday and it will be almost impossible for anyone associated with the Broncos to ever trust him again. When it is 3rd and 3 in the 4th quarter versus the Raiders, is Williams going to be where he’s suppose to be? Is Williams going to give his full effort and attention at Wednesday practices? In short when the chips are down, is Williams going to be there for the Broncos?
These are the questions that John Elway, John Fox and Champ Bailey must be asking themselves or maybe each other after Williams tweets on Friday. If you have to ask a question like that about a teammate, then you all ready have your answer.
Will the Broncos miss Williams on the field, maybe a little but at least they know Wesely Woodyard will have their back when the games on the line. The next tweet that we see from DJ Williams should read something like this, “I’ve been released from the Broncos because I’m an idiot!”
So long DJ, please leave the playbook!
