Arkansas vs Alabama

It’s Saturday morning and seven and half hours until opening kick-off of what was being built up as the biggest game of the SEC season, #1 Alabama vs. Arkansas.  Arkansas was rebounding after their roller coaster spring and summer but had Tyler Wilson and Kniles Davis coming back with an emerging Cobi Hamilton and Chris Gragg.  After week one, the game was still primed for the national stage. CBS had announced that the 12:30 PDT time slot would be filled with this marquee game but a wrench was thrown into the mix when University of Louisiana-Monroe came into Little Rock and beat the Razorbacks.

Now Arkansas vs. Alabama is still slotted for the primetime game on CBS but the luster is gone.

Hog fans have now gone from championship hopes to hoping to not be embarrassed by an Alabama team that were given a message through Coach Nick Saban via the media this week.  As it stands, Tyler Wilson is a game time decision and a key piece in the Hogs success. If Wilson can’t go, that means Brandon Allen or Brandon Mitchell will be taking snaps vs. an elite defense.

The more I look at this game the more I like the thought of seeing Brandon Mitchell run the option look that Paul Petrino used at Illinois vs. this Alabama defense. Now many will start to say the option attack that Michigan didn’t work vs. this defense but seem to forget that Denard Robinson can’t throw the ball. Mitchell is a superior athlete and has the ability to throw the ball vertically to Gragg and Hamilton. Now will we get to see this? I highly doubt it but I do remember Alabama getting gashed by the option attack of Georgia Southern last year in the middle of the season.

Just a thought of what could throw a kink in the Alabama game plan if John L. Smith and staff are wanting to.
