Most Impressive Team from Week 6

When I sat down to write my weekly blog about college football on Monday I had some trouble. I like to highlight a specific team or player, but this week I had trouble because I couldn’t decide who the most impressive team was. Could it be Notre Dame? Kansas St.? Ohio St.? Florida? West Virginia? While all of those candidates are reasonable this week’s most impressive team had to be the USC of the east.

Yes, I’m talking about the University of South Carolina.

The Gamecocks smashed the Georgia Bulldogs this past weekend in a game that was never ever remotely close. South Carolina jumped on the Bulldogs early and didn’t let up. A score of 21-0 at the end of the first quarter all but sealed the W for the Gamecocks. Georgia can into the game ranked #5 and the favorite to win the SEC East, but the Gamecock’s defensive line proved to be one of or perhaps THE BEST in the nation.

The line is massive with the tallest player being DE Devin Taylor standing at 6’8 and the heaviest is awarded to Byron Jerideau who weighs in at 316 lbs. The most talented by far is Jadeveon Clowney who at 6’6 256 lbs is a top 10 NFL draft pick whenever he decides to come out. Steve Spurrier has the offensive in great shape with the QB play of Connor Shaw and stud RB Marcus Lattimore.

The questions seem to come from the receiving core because none of the top three receivers have much size. In fact, some would say SC is playing three slot WR’s. With South Carolina’s big win over Georgia, they have put themselves in the perfect spot to win the SEC East and face (as of right now) Alabama in the SEC Title Game. That game would be a must watch because of the battle between Bama’s Offensive line and SC’s Defensive line. So, as week 6 comes to a close it was South Carolina who made the biggest impression in my mind and solidified them as a legit national title contender.
