Being a sports fan during losing streaks is hard. Really hard. Yet the saga continues as the Arizona Cardinals extend their free-fall from undefeated, losing their fifth straight game 17-31 to the Green Bay Packers. As the first team since 1993 to start the season with four wins then tank with five losses, it seems like ages ago we were able to talk openly and jovially about the Cardinals and their hopes for the play-offs.
My, oh my, what a difference five weeks can make.
Insert high-pitched, incredulous sounding voice here. “Whatʼs that? Ah – Playoffs?!? Donʼt talk about — playoffs?!? You kidding me? Playoffs?!? I just hope we can win a game!” Thank you, Coach Mora. That about sums it up. Despite being the underdog again this week, the Cardinals had the opportunity to do what they did in Foxborough and make the game interesting. They did for the most part in the third quarter as John Skelton led the team on two scoring drives, including a 31-yard touchdown by Larry Fitzgerald that pulled the Cards within seven points. However, the Packers had other things in mind and slammed the door shut with a 72-yard touchdown run, sealing the victory. It was a brutal, painful, awful game. Again.
Well, at least the NFL season isnʼt a complete bust. Three out of four of my fantasy teams are in the playoffs or making a run for it. Yah Baby! Bring on Week 10.
