The CFL was amazing in 2012 – 2013 should be just as awesome

WikipediaThe CFL season looms large and hardcore fans from coast to coast are getting ready to cheer on their favorite team. All eyes are on the Toronto Argonauts to see if they can repeat and make the Queen City the center of Canadian football. Ricky Ray and his crew will have to deal with the Montreal Alouettes who are in full rebuild plus the Hamilton Tiger Cats who will be out to prove that they are on the way back up the food chain.

The action out West will be crazy good as well. The Stamps are locked and loaded and looking to come out of the West to win the Grey Cup after coming so close last year.

CFL fanatics in BC and Saskatchewan have other plans as do fans of the Eskimos and Bombers. The West is going to be a wild one and it could go down to the last week again to see who makes it to the playoffs.

We will be covering all the CFL action with a team of bloggers from across Canada.  Stay tuned to the site and look for recaps of the big games so you can remember all the big plays. Continue reading

Which Broncos WR For Your Fantasy Team?

Demaryius Thomas, Eric DeckerThe Broncos signed probably the best Slot WR of all time….no? Maybe. Wes Welker will now be lining up next to Pro-Bowl WR Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in what could be the best WR core in the league oh ya and the guy throwing to them…#18 ya that’s Peyton Manning. So for Fantasy Owners who are now hard at work prepping for their first, second, or however many titles you have are now prepping for their drafts and their next big players. A lot of people have questions on this core, Will the receivers take catches away from each other? The answer to that is most likely yes after seeing Wes Welker have over 200 catches in the past two season shows this guy likes having the ball in his hand and so does Eric Decker who had an impressive double-digit touchdown season last year.

Lets not forget the guy that to me is the best WR on the team in Demaryius Thomas who broke over twelve hundred yards and over 10 touchdowns in 2012.

So which could be your star and the most productive in fantasy you ask? Well you have to look at a lot of things. Touchdown wise I give the edge to Thomas, His vertical deep time ability is not effected badly with the Welker signing actually it helps it as Welker and Decker can be the intermediate guys who take over the middle allowing some space for Thomas. I predict Thomas has over 11 touchdowns this year and has a monster break out junior year. Continue reading

Training Camp Battles: Quarterbacks

Football bench With most teams OTAs (Organized Team Activities) now underway, we are starting to see what team rosters look like on the field, and the interesting battles for positions which could occur when training camp begins.

One of the most interesting position battles is at Quarterback (QB), and there are at least six teams with QB battles for that all important starting spot. Here are the teams in consideration:

  • Buffalo Bills
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Oakland Raiders
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • New York Jets

Buffalo Bills – Kevin Kolb, EJ Manuel and Tarvaris Jackson

All of these QBs have signed new deals with the Bills this year.

I think Kolb has the upper hand at the moment prior to training camp because he has a higher QB rating than Jackson (Kolb = 78.9. Jackson = 77.7). When training camp begins, I think Kolb will be announced as the 1st string QB and Manuel will impress enough to be the 2nd string QB in the roster. Continue reading

The Overpayment of Quarterbacks

moneyThe Quarterback. The most important position in professional sports. These are the guys that get all the attention, all the cash and all the girls.

There is no doubt that Quarterbacks in the NFL have been getting overpaid for quite some time, without deserving all of the money they receive. Of course as time passes and the economy grows there is more money to be spent, Therefore athletes in every sport have been getting paid more than in past times.

This year there were three major contract signings which were discussed all around the globe:

Joe Flacco: 120.6 million dollars:  Coming off a Superbowl MVP performance and a great playoff run, the Baltimore Ravens didn’t wait long to lock up their franchise QB. I don’t agree with the contract he got, but there is a concept that has been misunderstood lately by the league. If any QB wins a Superbowl everybody right away hails him as an elite QB and that was exactly what happened with Joe Flacco. He isn’t an elite QB and he has the numbers to prove that, He can win and get his team to the playoffs consistently but let’s be clear about something; he had a lot of help doing it. That Leap of Faith or Not: The Debate on the New England Patriots and Tim Tebow

Patriots ?If you have been in touch of the NFL world, by now you know that the 2013 NFL Draft has taken place. Although it was not hyped or put on front page news because there were no Andrew Luck’s or Robert Griffin III (RG3)’s in this year’s class, there were quite a few major surprises that took place. One of those surprising moves was the New York Jets adding another Quarterback to their circus when they signed Geno Smith.

I am sure than many people that witnessed this move was thinking either “What the Hell???” or “How can you add more drama to a three ring circus?”

Immediately after acquiring Smith, the Jets had to realize that they had to actually limit their quarterback madness to two (strongest 3) quarterbacks. Out of all of thirty-two teams in the entire league, the New York Jets held five or six quarterbacks in their possession: Tim Tebow, starter Mark Sanchez, David Garrad, Matt Simms, Greg McElroy, and the newly acquired Geno Smith. So after the Jets sat down (can y’all actually believe that they sat down and thought about something????!) they actually came to the conclusion that they actually had a problem. So, they decided on a few moves. Continue reading

What Came First-The Chicken or The Egg? A Look At The Atlanta Falcons Stadium Debate

chicken vs eggBy now I am sure everyone has heard the news that Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank has struck a deal with the City of Atlanta and Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed in building a new Dome for the football team. Although the stadium is not that old looking, the new Dome will come with some new features such as a retractable rooftop and more state of the art equipment.

Although the deal comes with the option that the citizens of Atlanta will not have to contribute anything to the massive bill that will be incurred, there is a huge debate on the stadium…and it’s quite interesting.

So the famous question is…should the Falcons get a new stadium now or later?

On one hand, many Falcons fans are arguing that the team SHOULD get a new stadium now due to the fact that it will now only benefit the team but it will be a “win win” situation for both the team and the City of Atlanta, both exposure and financial wise. Continue reading
